I talk a lot about empathy – it’s one of the keys to creating successful inbound marketing campaigns, and it’s a pretty darn good way to live your life. When you can truly understand when someone is going through something – good or bad – you find yourself having richer experiences with others around you.
In order to create an effective inbound marketing strategy it’s important to hone your Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Intelligence measures how well you “get” what someone is going through. Are they happy or humoring you? Are they embarrassed or angry? While Emotional Intelligence is great if you’re inherently empathetic, it’s also a skill that can be developed with time and practice. Here’s a great test to get a baseline for your current Emotional Intelligence. They also include some suggestions for improvement.
